Infill Development Benefits Altoona Community

Aerial view of the facility toward the end of construction.

At some point, most growing communities find a need for a sports complex to provide recreational opportunities for their residents. For the City of Altoona, this need took the shape of a dedicated, 80-acre soccer facility designed to meet current, and future, demand. City leaders partnered with the professionals with Snyder & Associates to design and prepare construction documents for the proposed Spring Creek Soccer Complex on the city’s south side.

Based on the city’s master planning efforts, the facility was designed as a high-use soccer complex with the amenities necessary to serve the needs of tournament and league play. Built on former agricultural ground, the amenities include eight full-size, natural turf soccer fields with irrigation and six full-size, non-irrigated practice fields. A centrally located, synthetic-turf tournament field was designed to accommodate football and soccer matches. Adjacent to this field is the concession and restroom buildings, an awards plaza, playground, and an open lawn gathering space.

Large parking lot outside of recreational facility

The parking lot is staged to grow with the expansion of the facility.

The main parking facility for the complex is located southeast of the concession stand and restroom plaza. Provisions have been made for the addition of another parking lot to the north as use of the facility increases and more parking becomes necessary. Our project team also provided construction administration and observation in coordination with the City of Altoona. Now in operation for many years, the facility has provided a first-class experience for athletes and fans.
