The Iowa Utilities Board/Office of Consumer Advocate building is the first state government structure in Iowa to be certified LEED Platinum by the U.S. Green Building Council and Green Building Certification Institute. Achieving LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) status demonstrates leadership, innovation, and environmental stewardship, with LEED Platinum representing the highest international standard. LEED-certified buildings provide healthy indoor spaces and tools to positively impact energy performance and the bottom line.

Snyder & Associates worked with Berkebile Nelson Immenschuh McDowell (BNIM), the building architect, and J.P. Cullen & Sons, Inc., general contractor, towards LEED certification. Our team provided site grading, paving, stormwater, sanitary sewer, and domestic water utility design, including the use of pervious concrete and bio-retention cells to help achieve LEED stormwater credits. The project was also recognized by AIA COTE as one of the top ten projects of 2012.
