The air is crisp, vibrant fall foliage is upon us, and the holiday season is right around the corner. It’s a special time of year filled with celebration, the company of friends and family, and the warm spirit of the season. As we prepare to sit around the table this Thanksgiving, the Snyder & Associates family would like to share moments of gratitude.

Enduring Community & Client Partnerships

When Dennis Snyder and Steven Rowe founded Snyder & Associates in 1977, their vision was for the firm to become known and respected throughout Iowa as a provider of comprehensive engineering services. To reach that goal, a strong emphasis was placed on responsive, personal service. Nearly three months after opening the doors of their first office, Dennis and Steve began serving their first client community, Polk City.

Forty years later, we remain true to our founding vision while striving to improve the quality of life within the communities we serve.

 

“The relationships we’ve formed with our client communities are a driving force behind our work,” shares Dave Moeller, PE, President of Snyder & Associates. “When they’re successful, we’re successful.”

 

 

Polk City, a client to this day, is one of 180 communities served by Snyder & Associates. With an unwavering commitment to owner success, over 90 percent of business comes from repeat clients.

“We share the same goal as our clients and that’s to overcome the challenges they face with long-term solutions. In doing so, we’re able to establish trust and camaraderie, which are essential to longevity in a client relationship,” adds Moeller.

From city administrators to public works staff, contractors, community residents, and regulatory agencies, there are numerous stakeholders involved with every project. The process of collaborating with a diverse group of individuals to reach a shared goal inspires Snyder & Associates’ employees.

“I enjoy the way our clients bring us into the fold of their communities and allow us to collaborate in ways that make the lives of the people we serve better,” shares Wade Greiman, PE, Transportation Business Unit Leader. “Working with enthusiastic members of a community is infectious, and you can’t help but feel a great sense of civic responsibility and pride.”

Challenging Projects

For our diverse team of skilled professionals, the challenging projects that arise from collaborating with clients has a significant impact on their personal and professional growth. While striving to help clients overcome obstacles, they acquire new skills, knowledge, and insight that’s crucial in their careers in the professional service industry.

“Our goal is to serve as a trusted resource for our clients,” shares Jeff Walters, Environmental Scientist. “We welcome the opportunity to take on a wide variety of projects because it allows us to gain valuable knowledge only realized through project experience.”

As he reflects on the award-winning First Avenue Grade Separation project, Andy Burke, PE, Civil Engineer, points out how challenging projects often reinforce concepts that guide project success.

Transparency and teamwork throughout a project are important,” he explains. “When challenges arise, it not only impacts stakeholders but the general public as well. A key component of a successful project is keeping everyone involved, aware of what’s going on, and informed on why specific decisions were made.”

From design through construction, there’s a great deal of time and effort that goes into every project. For Burke and Walters, as well as their colleagues, the process of working a project through to completion instills a sense of fulfillment.

“It’s very rewarding when you’re able to provide clients with solutions that bring their vision to life,” states Walters.

Motivated, Forward-Thinking Employees

When reflecting on the overall success and growth of the firm, Moeller credits two sources.

“It really comes down to our clients and our employees,” he acknowledged. “As a result of the challenging projects our clients pose, our employees are compelled to discover innovative solutions.”

Continuous learning and improvement are cornerstones of company culture, which are supported by a collaborative, family atmosphere. Each year, staff achievements and community involvement are honored during an employee recognition event.

“Everyone works together to exceed expectations and it shows in the quality of their work,” adds Moeller. “We have a lot to be proud of and thankful for as we look forward to the possibilities that lay ahead.”

The Opportunity to Give Back

From sponsorships to serving on city and county boards, improving the quality of life for the communities served by Snyder & Associates extends beyond just engineering.

“Fulfilling our founding vision is about much more than just the services we provide,” he explains. “It’s about becoming involved as active members of the communities we call home.”

Both community and professional involvement are strongly encouraged, with numerous staff members having held elected or appointed positions within their respective communities. Recently, Snyder & Associates’ staff gave back through involvement with the Council Bluffs’ Dream Playground Re-Imagined project, Brunch with the Boss, Engineers Across Borders, and APA Ambassadors, as well as career discovery and readiness programs.

“When we give back, we’re able to learn and grow, while having a positive impact. It doesn’t get much better than that,” concludes Moeller.
