Representatives of the Gypsum City Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Park traveled to Washington, D.C. to be presented with an Annual Achievement Award for Public/Private Partnerships and Access To/Use of Public Lands from the Coalition of Recreational Trails (CRTs) during Great Outdoors Week, sponsored by American Recreation Coalition.
“This award is significant to our community and truly highlights the collaboration of the many individuals, organizations and entities involved over the past 16 years,” commented Dennis Plautz, CEO of the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance.
The Gypsum City OHV Park is the largest public riding area in Iowa and serves as the “premier” riding opportunity for all ability levels, influencing Gypsum City to become a premier OHV destination park not only in Iowa but also the Midwest. Collaboration and a variety of funding sources have been the keys to developing the regional attraction.
The award is to recognize outstanding trail projects funding by the national Recreational Trails Program (RTP), which is in support of an ongoing effort to build awareness and appreciation for enhancing the quantity and quality of trail experiences available to the public. As an additional benefit to the community, American Trails has created a Gypsum City OHV Park web page to generate further awareness for the project.
