SNYDER & ASSOCIATES ESTABLISHED
Dennis Snyder & Stephen Rowe established Snyder & Associates, a small engineering and planning firm in the heart of Oskaloosa, IA. Their vision was clear: to build a respected and trusted firm across Iowa, all while maintaining a commitment to responsive, personalized service that catered to each client’s unique needs.
NEW OPPORTUNITIES
Just a few months after launching, the firm received a major opportunity with the Polk City water treatment plant project in July 1977. To better serve this growing demand they opened a second office in Ankeny. On its first day, they brought on their first three team members: a secretary, surveyor, and inspector.
EXPANDING THE FIRM
By 1979, Snyder & Associates had expanded rapidly, earning the role of City Engineer for both Polk City and Clive. With a team of 25 employees, a diverse range of projects, and an ever-growing client base, the firm had quickly transformed Dennis and Stephen’s original vision into a thriving reality.
GROWING IN THE MIDWEST
From 1990 to 2006, the firm expanded to include office locations in Atlantic, Cedar Rapids, and Council Bluffs, Iowa, as well as in Maryville and St. Joseph, Missouri.
WELCOMING SHUCK-BRITSON
In 2008, after decades of working closely together, a structural engineering firm, Shuck-Britson, became part of the Snyder & Associates family to deepen and expand the full-service capabilities of both firms.Â
INCREASED REGIONAL PRESENCE
From 2010 to 2014, the firm grew its regional presence by opening offices in three additional states: Wisconsin, Nebraska, and South Dakota, and also added a new location in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
NEW OFFICES
By 2023, Snyder & Associates had grown to 13 offices across the Midwest, with the most recent additions in Iowa City, Iowa, and Gladstone, Missouri, along with a new state-of-the-art facility in Cedar Rapids which demonstrated long-term commitment to the region.

Over 45 years since inception, Snyder & Associates has grown to became the largest civil engineering and planning firm in Central Iowa. For us, it’s more than the project at hand. It’s about building long-term relationships with the people we serve, which is why 93 percent of our clients continue to trust us as an extension of their staff.
