Ziggy Park Ball Field: A Lasting Gift to the DeForest & Windsor Communities

Snyder & Associates is proud to have played a key role in the development of Ziggy Park, a new baseball facility in the Village of DeForest that enhances the community’s recreational offerings while honoring local history. Named in recognition of Dwight and Bonnie Ziegler’s lifelong contributions to the area, Ziggy Park is a testament to their passion for athletics and community engagement. Situated on 7.8 acres at the west end of the master-planned Bear Tree Farms development, the facility serves high school, college, and adult recreational baseball players while also providing valuable park and green space for the Villages of DeForest and Windsor.

A Vision Rooted in Community and Tradition

A sunset game at the new Ziggy Park Ball Field.

Ziggy Park is more than just a ball field—it is a gift steeped in DeForest-Windsor lore. Dwight and Bonnie Ziegler, both DeForest High School graduates, grew up immersed in local baseball culture and recognized the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship. With a desire to create a lasting impact, they envisioned Ziggy Park as a place where future generations could experience the joys of competition and camaraderie. Their generous donation of the field to a local non-profit organization ensures that their vision will endure for years to come.

Designing for Functionality and Accessibility

The project’s primary goal was to fulfill the Village’s comprehensive plan by providing the necessary recreational space to meet community needs. Snyder & Associates worked closely with the Village staff, contractors, and ownership to create a design that accommodates a variety of user groups while ensuring accessibility and functionality. The result is a state-of-the-art baseball facility featuring a synthetic turf infield and a natural grass outfield, designed to withstand heavy use while maintaining excellent playability.

Overcoming Challenges Through Collaboration

The project presented several challenges, including the site’s steep topography and the need to balance design aspirations with budget constraints. Our team strategically coordinated with the nearby subdivision’s general contractor to optimize earthwork, ultimately reducing costs while maintaining construction schedules. This collaboration was essential to the successful installation of stormwater and utility infrastructure, paving the way for a high-quality final product.

A Community Asset for Generations to Come

Ziggy Park opened in the summer of 2023, providing an immediate benefit to local athletes and the broader community. In 2024, the addition of a large concession stand and restroom facility further enhanced the park’s amenities, making it a premier destination for baseball and recreation in DeForest. With a rich history and a thoughtful design that meets present and future needs, Ziggy Park is poised to remain a cherished community landmark. Snyder & Associates is honored to have contributed to this meaningful project, reinforcing our commitment to creating spaces that bring people together and enrich their communities.
